It's inevitable. News surfaces about a new iPhone or Android application and almost immediately it's followed by "When are we getting our BlackBerry app?"
And with good reason. For all the buzz about Google and Apple handsets, BlackBerry remains the dominant force in smart mobile devices. So it shouldn't come as any surprise that MySpace has released an application for the BlackBerry platform. What is surprising, however, is how long it has taken.

In the course of the 2008 U.S. election cycle, which resulted in the election of Senator Barack Obama last night, we regularly reported about how the candidates used the web and social media tools to connect to their followers and organize their campaigns. Today, we received some data from Trendrr, an online statistics mashup tool, that clearly shows Obama's lead in using technology to connect to his audience, as well as his overall lead in mindshare in the blogosphere as a whole.
From the moment people had the ability to upload video content to the Web, they took the liberty of posting anything and everything they could find - whether they owned the rights to the content or not. Unfortunately, this caused the people who did own the rights to the content a great deal of heartache, as that free distribution channel cut into their profits. So they fought back with lawyers, take-down notices, and other legal threats. Where did it get them? Not terribly far.
But now, a new partnership between MySpace and MTV Networks might have those content owners changing their tune - and actually encouraging people to upload all the content they want.

This summer MySpace announced that it would implement OpenID and a number of new user data hooks for developers to build mashups with. That announcement was made in July and there's been no MySpace OpenID seen in the wild...until now.

Remember when we told you that your MySpace web browser is coming? Well today it has officially arrived. In the new version of the social browser Flock, they've finally integrated their number one most-requested feature: support for MySpace. Additionally, the Flock 2.0 upgrade includes support for Media RSS, a technology which delivers real-time image and video streams in a standardized format. With this feature, Flock can support any web service as long as they offer a Media RSS feed.
For any company that thought social media was a passing fad not worthy of their time, the numbers coming out of a recent study published by Opinion Research Corporation for Cone should come as a wake-up call. According to that study, 85% of Americans using social media think companies should have an active presence in the social media environment. What's even more interesting is that those users actually want the companies to interact with them while there.
