Appsfire Tracks Hot Apps with AppTrends

By Mike Melanson / June 30, 2010 10:34 AM / View Comments

It's been 75 silent days since iPhone app sharing service Appsfire submitted version 2.0 to Apple for entry into the App Store, but in the meantime, the company has released a new way of finding apps. Instead of solely relying on recommendations from friends, Appsfire now offers recommendations on your next downloads with a popular app tracker called AppTrends.

The introduction of AppTrends comes alongside announcements that ex-Jaiku co-founder Jyri Engestrom has joined on as an adviser and that the company has received a new round of funding from Lerer Ventures.

Sharing iPhone & iPad Apps is About to Get Cooler

By Marshall Kirkpatrick / May 7, 2010 6:57 AM / View Comments

There are so many iPhone apps available (and perhaps so few iPad apps yet) that few geeky things can bring people together like sharing their favorites. My favorite way to do that is through Appsfire, a service that lets me select any number of apps on my phone and send links to them by email to anyone I'm talking to.

Appsfire has long been clever and useful, but the company sent us a demo video last night of its next version. This version is radically different and includes far more app recommendations, comparing apps with friends by Bluetooth and more. Check out the video below.

The guys at AppsFire has done it again - it's built a simple but compelling little iPhone app that you should probably download right away. Pastefire is an app that lets you capture and act upon information sent with a click from your computer's browser to your iPhone.

See a phone number on the web you want to call? A text or a link you want to paste into an SMS? Click the Pastefire bookmarklet on your browser, then launch the Pastefire app on your phone and the most appropriate action for the type of media captured will happen automatically. It's easy, fast and free.

Will Recommendation Apps be the New iPhone App Hotness?

By Dana Oshiro / January 5, 2010 3:31 PM / View Comments

healthapps_trends_jan10.jpgWhile maybe not the most visually compelling product, Healthful Apps represents an interesting new trend for 2010. Created by Apps for All, the product recommends customer-reviewed iPhone health applications in a variety of categories including autism, relaxation and memory. Although the company's first effort is focused on health, the larger industry-wide question remains - will this year's branded iPhone app be a recommendation app?

Draw Your Own iPhone Game With Pencil and Paper

SketchNationLogo.jpgSketch Nation is a forthcoming iPhone app that takes iPhone photos of drawn images and uses them as avatars, obstacles and enemies in a customized fly-and-shoot mobile game. It's pretty sweet and was the winner of the recent AppsFire AppStar Awards for unlaunched iPhone apps. I was one of 20 judges for that contest and yes, I voted for SketchNation.

Check out these demonstration videos below and keep your eyes peeled for Sketch Nation to go live in the App Store. We have no idea if and when that will happen, but hopefully soon. This looks awesome.

iTunes App Store: 100k Apps, But Only 20% Are Being Used

By Frederic Lardinois / November 4, 2009 8:36 AM / View Comments

app_store_small_logo_nov09.jpgApple today announced that the iTunes App Store now features over 100,000 applications for the iPhone and iPod touch. App Store users have downloaded over 2 billion applications. While Apple is obviously celebrating this as a success of its developer program, AppsFire reminds us that only a very small number of these apps are hits. According to AppsFire, the majority of apps sits in the App Store's long tail, where 80% of the apps barely see any active installs.

Show Us Your Best Unlaunched iPhone Apps [Contest]

By Marshall Kirkpatrick / October 21, 2009 8:54 AM / View Comments

IPhone app sharing service AppsFire (our review) has announced a contest to highlight the best still-unlaunched iPhone apps under development and ReadWriteWeb will be part of the judging. Called the App Star Awards, the contest will evaluate 30-second videos about apps under development.

The iPhone app environment is absurdly overcrowded and hard to navigate - AppsFire is one of my favorite solutions to that problem. The service lets you email links to apps you want to share on your phone. It's simple but so useful! A contest to start the hype for apps before they get buried in the app store is smart.

Appsfire: The Must-Have App Sharing App (iPhone)

By Marshall Kirkpatrick / August 19, 2009 8:59 AM / View Comments

I tell people about the Rachel Maddow iPhone app all the time; almost no one has heard of it, but it's great. From now on I won't just tell them about it - I'll share a link to it by email with just a few clicks in the new iPhone app from Appsfire, just approved by the App Store last night.

Appsfire is a handy little service that makes it easy to share collections of your favorite apps with other people. There are a variety of ways to use it, but using it on the iPhone is the most pleasing, straightforward and clearly useful. This app indexes all your other apps, makes it easy to share with anyone and shows off the most popular apps shared by all users and users in your geographic region. It's far from perfect, but it's so useful anyway that we recommend you get it.
