Your Web 2.0 App is a Security Threat

By Sarah Perez / December 8, 2008 10:07 PM / Comments

In the world of enterprise I.T., everything is a security risk: your insecure password, an unexpected email attachment, a careless web surfer clicking through to a malicious URL, or the unapproved software you installed on your computer. Today's I.T. has plenty of tools to handle most of these threats, ranging from firewalls and spam filters to malware fighting software and application control mechanisms. Now, they will soon have something more: a new Application Control Engine that specifically goes after and shuts down Web 2.0 apps and social network widgets.

We Have To Turn This Crisis Around

By Sramana Mitra / November 17, 2008 09:00 PM / Comments

"Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light." - Dylan Thomas

Who will turn this crisis around? We will. Who else? And how else but with innovation and entrepreneurship? Entrepreneurs: this is your time to step up to the plate. Hard as the times may be, you must remember, many, many great companies were born during recessions. And many others almost died in the midst of recessions but managed to survive through their founders' tremendous grit and resilience.

By Sarah Perez / November 12, 2008 11:15 PM / Comments

Want to escape your email? These days, who doesn't? Email is one of the easiest technologies to use, which leads to an unfortunate side effect: we get too much of it. The information overload crisis has gotten out of hand and is now at the point where it's interfering with the way business operates. VMware Brings Virtualization To Mobile Phones

VMware, a company known for their virtualization software for the desktop and datacenter, recently announced their plans to bring that software to mobile phones through their new VMware Mobile Virtualization Platform (MVP). The software is built on technology the company acquired from Trango Virtual Processors just last month. With this new technology, you would no longer have to carry both a work phone and a personal phone. Instead, your I.T. department could just deploy the corporate phone's profile to your personal device where it would then run in a virtualized space.

Social Media for Business - Who's Doing it Well & How

By Lidija Davis / October 2, 2008 12:56 PM / Comments

Charlene Li, co-author of Groundswell, and former Forrester analyst, has recently launched her own company, the Altimeter Group.  This week, she gave a keynote at the Social Media Marketing Summit 2008, San Francisco. Known for her commitment to social media, and belief that marketing and advertising are fatally flawed, Li started with a Google search on 'Comcast'.  The ninth result is a YouTube video titled: A Comcast technician sleeping on my couch.

"This is why social media is so important," Li said, "this YouTube video recorded by 'Brian' resulted in the Comcast brand going down the toilet. You must understand that the power is now in the hands of consumers."

Law 2.0 News: Mumboe Uses Semantics To Pull Key Data From Contracts

By Sarah Perez / September 30, 2008 11:40 PM / Comments

Mumboe isn't just another enterprise collaboration suite. Instead, they focus on doing one thing and doing it well: making business agreements searchable. That's a very unique need they fill, which is why is why they already have 3000 customers using their free Express solution after only having launched earlier this spring. To compete with the handful of other vendors in this narrow space, Mumboe has now added a new feature called On-Demand Contract Intelligence, which takes advantage of the service's semantic processing engine to deliver something the others don't: automatic extraction of data.
