SnagIt Goes Mac: Check Out The Best Screen Capture App Available

By Marshall Kirkpatrick / December 15, 2009 10:01 AM / View Comments

snagitlogo.jpegTechSmith, the makers of powerful screencast recording software Camtasia and screen capture app SnagIt, announced this morning that a beta version of SnagIt is now available for the Mac. The Windows version costs $50 but the Mac beta is free for now. It's great.

If you've used Skitch or Little Snapper, SnagIt seems much more full-featured. The best parts I've seen so far are far more font options and really easy composite image creation.

Remember what it was like to capture video off a computer screen before desktop recording software came along?

You'd mount a big, expensive camera on a tripod, point it at the screen and, unless you had tweaked a bunch of settings or loaded special software, you'd get black bars creeping up and down the screen because of a refresh rate mismatch. And once you solved that problem, you still needed to be well versed in editing tools, video-tape transfer and replication.
