Chart of the Day: No Primetime for Smartphones

Analtyics firm Zokem recently released data related to smartphone usage trends, based on its panel of global studies involving consumer behavior. The goal was to identify mobile consumer trends as related to smartphone enagement.

The company found that there is a slight peak in the afternoon on work days, related to an increase in voice calls. But for the rest of the day, engagement with different smartphone features is fairly even, including both app and Internet usage.

Analytics firm Flurry has analyzed trends on its network of 45,000 companies and 90,000 apps to determine where developers are investing their R&D budgets this year. In a comparison of Q1 2011 and Q2 2011, you can see that the Android project starts have dropped from 36% to 28% while those on iOS have picked up.

Yvo Schaap is a 23 year old student in the Netherlands who spends at least some of his time developing ways to visualize information. More specifically, he has been working with the open Twitter API and generating some amazing informatics visuals from the resulting output. Plus, the tools and methods he uses to get the visuals is almost a lesson in new media artistry.
