Today IBM announced the availability of several new iOS, BlackBerry and Android apps for accessing its enterprise communications software products. The apps cover Connections, LotusLive Meeting, Samtime, and Lotus Notes Traveler, along with other tools. Most of the apps are free, but of course you have to be using the server versions that they correspond with in your company.
In-app services company Urban Airship recently pushed a wealth of information on mobile device connectivity, or more specifically, something called "connection durability." This metric refers to the average duration of an IP connection, which can be measured by the number of times a device's data connection reconnects throughout the day.
Although its sample isn't clean enough to make statistically supported statements, Urban Airship believes it's still a fascinating look into the life of a mobile device on data networks throughout the world. We agree. For example, why is the Nexus S at the top of the charts for reconnections? Why do devices in China stay so well-connected? And how often does your own device lose a signal, on average?

The problem with most contact management tools is that only a portion of your acquaintances are considered useful. Meanwhile, unconventional contacts like PTA parents, yoga partners and softball teammates remain invisible. Social graphing software PeopleMaps aims to change that. Similar to LinkedIn, the tool allows users to leverage their networks to gain access to new leads. In addition to importing professional connections from LinkedIn, PeopleMaps also provides a visual map of connections imported from Facebook, Gmail and Outlook.
From HP's Social Computing Lab comes news of Friendlee, an entirely new kind of social network that focuses on the intimate connections between close friends, family, and colleagues. The application, designed to operate on your mobile phone, tracks your call and messaging history to provide an ambient awareness of who your "real" friends are and then adds those people to your social network. Not only that, but Friendlee also tracks the businesses you call frequently to identify your preferred services which can then be used as recommendations to your network of friends.
