Dalai Lama To Host Google Plus Hangout Tomorrow

By Jon Mitchell / October 7, 2011 9:28 AM / View Comments

dalailama150.jpgThe Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader in exile, has joined Google Plus, and he's hosting a live Hangout tomorrow with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The conversation is part of the inaugural Desmond Tutu Peace Lecture in Cape Town, South Africa. It's an On Air Hangout, so there's no limit to the number of viewers.

The Hangout will be held tomorrow (Saturday, October 8) at 10:30 a.m. South African time (GMT +2:00). Unfortunately for U.S. readers, that's 4:30 a.m. Eastern, 1:30 a.m. Pacific. Google SVP Vic Gundotra says the video will be available shortly thereafter. You can follow the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu on Google Plus.

Dalai Lama Holds Q&A with Chinese via Twitter

By Mike Melanson / May 21, 2010 7:47 AM / View Comments

Just like most walls, there are ways around, over, under and through the "Great Firewall" of China. While the Dalai Lama would never find himself having a government-sanctioned chat with the Chinese populous, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader will be answering questions from Chinese Web users via Twitter on Friday.

Updated: His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama [Has Not] Joined Twitter [Yet]

By Lidija Davis / February 7, 2009 11:27 PM / View Comments

dl_jan_09.jpgIt appears the Dalai Lama is following in the footsteps of Pope Benedict XVI and moving into the world of social networking. Today he joined microblogging service Twitter.

Going under the obscure Twitter name @OHHDL, The Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama sent out a welcome tweet earlier today introducing the official Twitter page of the Dalai Lama.

Update: Twitter announced on Monday morning that the OHHDL account was actually a fake. The company has been contacted by the real Dalai Lama's office and the account has been closed. Twitter says that they are working to get the real deal set up with an account - there's certainly demonstrated interest. At more than 16,000 followers in one weekend, the fake Dalai Lama was one of the fastest growing accounts that Twitter has ever seen.
