Often appearing on lists of "must have" Mac software, the open source FTP, SFTP, and WebDAV client Cyberduck announced a new version yesterday that gives the tool even more file management features, including support for Google Storage and file versioning in Amazon S3.

New features include integration of Access Control List editing for Amazon S3 and Google Storage so that permissions can be granted to different users. Using Cyberduck alongside Google Storage, for example, one can limit access to files based on whether a user is logged in to a Google Account and authenticated against the ACL.

San Francisco-based micro-blogging service Posterous launched a marketing campaign back in June that raised a few eyebrows across the Web for its apparently brazen approach. The company has been rolling out new tools since the beginning of the campaign aimed at helping new and existing users transplant their data onto Posterous from other services - services it referred to as "dying platforms." Today, the campaign came to a close with the release of the company's final switch tool for the behemoth blogging platform, Wordpress.

Nimbula emerged from stealth today, and as you might expect with co-founders who developed the Amazon EC2 cloud service, it's poised to be a pretty dig deal. The new project of Chris Pinkham and Willem van Billjon, Nimbula merges the technology of the public cloud - with all its efficiency and scalability - with the security and control of the private data center.

And with such luminaries on board, it's no surprise that the startup seems to be tackling some of the key challenges associated with enterprise cloud adoption: questions of private versus public clouds, security, and interoperability.

Staff of Linden Labs, the creators of virtual world Second Life, and IBM announced last night that they have achieved the first recorded teleport of their avatars from one virtual world into another. Researchers from the two companies teleported avatars from the Second Life Preview Grid to an OpenSim virtual world.

While unaffiliated parties have created versions of this process before, Linden says theirs is the first effort to achieve trans-world teleportation without logging out of one world and logging in to the other. No virtual goods were transported across the barrier, a major concern for Second Lifers concerned with virtual property theft and rapid depreciation of their assets' value.
