Yahoo Tests New Front Page - May Eventually Replace My Yahoo!

By Frederic Lardinois / November 12, 2008 11:54 AM

yahoo_logo_purple_nov08.pngYahoo today announced that it is bucket testing a new design of its front page. The new design was built on top of the latest version of Yahoo's UI Library, which, according to Yahoo, will accelerate performance and give third-party developers the ability to easily create applications for the new front page. It is not clear when this new design will become widely available, but for now, it is only available to a random subset of Yahoo's users.

AOL Gives YourMinis Users the Post-Acquisition Blues, Shutters Service

By Marshall Kirkpatrick / October 21, 2008 9:58 AM

yourminislogo150.jpgGrab your OPML reading list and get out now. That was the message in an email sent today to users of the innovative start-page service YourMinis, a years-old startup that was acquired by AOL in February.

YourMinis was a start-page service like no other, but its feature richness and happy users fall victim to the cold business logic that so many cool startups face after being acquired. YourMinis is now primarily used to power advertising widgets for AOL, a practice that will continue but pales in comparison to the beautiful topical pages its users built with the full service over the last several years.

MyYahoo 2.0 Goes Live for All; Developer Platform Coming Soon

By Marshall Kirkpatrick / July 7, 2008 11:22 AM

myyahoobeta.jpgAfter more than a year in private beta, the new Web 2.0 style MyYahoo is being rolled out today to all MyYahoo users, the company says. MyYahoo is the biggest player of all web start pages and any changes made there will effect millions of mainstream users.

The best is yet to come, though, as Yahoo! also said today that MyYahoo would open up to outside developer applications in the next few months. That's among the changes we've been waiting for since the company's big announcement in April about a shift towards whole scale personalization and data portability.
