Q&A: Janrain's CEO Discusses OpenID in the Federal Government
Janrain is a Portland company working with the federal government to replace login and registration blocks with an OpenID framework. The company is the only service provider that is working with the Apps.Gov site to provide OpenID-based login and registration tools.
We asked JanRain CEO Brian Kissel to provide some background about OpenID in the federal government and the role the company plays in its adoption. Kissel is chairman of the OpenID Foundation.
Janrain recently relaunched its OpenID service as Janrain Engage.The service helps connects sites to the social web through APIs and widgets. Janrain Engage allows visitors to sign-in to sites with their social network accounts and then publish comments, purchases, reviews or other activities across the social Web.
OpenID Foundation Introduces New Executive Director
The awareness of OpenID continues to grow. At the same time, the OpenID Foundation - the organization founded to promote, protect, and enable OpenID technologies and community - has been growing too, adding new board members and sustaining sponsors. Today, another piece of the board came together, as the OpenID Foundation introduced its new executive director Don Thibeau.

That acceptance led ReadWriteWeb's Marshall Kirkpatrick to call the OpenID Foundation "one of the leading organizations in the new standards world." In that same post, Kirkpatrick urged people to participate in the elections for the OpenID Foundation Board of Directors. Now, the time for that participation has come.
