By Frederic Lardinois / October 20, 2010 02:45 AM / Comments

Apple is holding a Mac-centric press event on its Cupertino campus this morning. The rumor mill is pointing towards a preview of OS X 10.7 Lion, as well as a refresh of the MacBook Air line and possibly a new version of Apple's iLife and iWork suites. Given that this is a Mac event, we don't expect to hear anything about the Verizon iPhone or other iOS devices today.

To see what really happens, read on to see our live blog, which will start at 10 a.m. Pacific/1p.m. Eastern.

At Last! Streaming Media App Orb Launches Mac Version

By Sarah Perez / November 5, 2009 10:53 PM / Comments

We had almost forgotten about Orb, the media-sharing software that lets you stream video from your home computer to your iPhone or any other internet-connected device. In fact, the last time we had even looked at the application was November of 2008 when the company announced an update to their iPhone application which allowed you to stream live TV over the 3G network. At that time though, the desktop software portion of the Orb product was PC-only. As in Windows PC-only. Today, that has changed. Orb for Macintosh has finally been released so Mac OS X users can now stream their media over the net, too.

15 Fluid Apps You Can Build for Your Business

By Steven Walling / August 18, 2009 04:14 AM / Comments

Fluid is a simple application for creating site-specific browsers (SSBs) on your OSX desktop. Fluid definitely wasn't the first SSB project and was inspired primarily by the Mozilla Prism project.

The advantage with an SSB is that you can take almost any Web application you use heavily and get it out of your browser, reducing tab usage, avoiding crashes, and generally improving workflow. Fluid is really for anyone, but the low barrier to entry and the effect it has on productivity make it an attractive tool for getting things done. Though it's been around for a while, few businesses have really taken advantage of its full potential.
