Socialwok is a FriendFeed for Google Apps

By Steven Walling / September 15, 2009 11:20 AM / View Comments

socialwok-logo.pngGoogle Apps is an impressive productivity suite. But however good Docs and Gmail are, organizations using Apps are left without the kinds of social software they're used to having outside of work. Singapore-based startup Socialwok is attempting to fix that by offering a social app that lives on top of Google Apps. Socialwok resembles FriendFeed in many ways. The real-time stream of information can include attachments in-line and can be divided into topical feeds. The big difference is that all of it is nested securely under the umbrella of your Apps login.

By Steven Walling / June 23, 2009 7:00 AM / View Comments

Telligent_logo_jun09.pngTelligent, a leading community and enterprise collaboration platform, has launched the new versions of both their internal and external platforms, as well as a new analytics package to accompany them.

You may remember the various faces of Telligent as Community Server, Community Server Evolution, and Harvest Reporting Server, but they've all received new, more straightforward branding. Now it's just Telligent Community for the outward-facing software, Telligent Enterprise for the intranet solution, and Telligent Analytics for....well, you get the picture.

A preeminent community platform according to Forrester (the portion behind the firewall was not assessed), Telligent made these announcements in tandem with their presence at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference, and you can check out the new software powering an unofficial community site for the gathering.

By Sarah Perez / June 23, 2009 6:18 AM / View Comments

ThisMoment is a new media-sharing site (see our previous coverage) which lets you post photos and videos in a slideshow format while also sharing them across the web to sites like Facebook and Twitter. Part microblog, part social network, and part sharing platform, thisMoment's goal goes beyond simply providing a place to store and share your media. In other words, it's not just a Twitter clone with pictures. Instead, this beautifully crafted site is designed to allow you to share media that has meaning to you - the special moments that will in turn create a "digital reflection" of your life.

By Steven Walling / June 23, 2009 3:00 AM / View Comments

Disclosure: Socialtext is a ReadWriteWeb sponsor.

Socialtext_logo_jun09.pngOn the 30th anniversary of the original killer business application, enterprise platform Socialtext has brought wiki spreadsheet app SocialCalc in to the light of day.

Created in collaboration with VisiCalc co-creator Dan Bricklin, the long-awaited app is the social enterprise successor to Bricklin's original innovation. Begun in 2006 and now in public beta, its a more fully-functional version of his concept of WikiCalc.

Along with the public beta of SocialCalc, the company has transformed its offering in to a freemium price plan dubbed "Socialtext Free 50." The 50-user version will see their collaborative software become available free of cost for the first time.

CollectiveX Gets Axed, Rebrands as Groupsite.com

By Steven Walling / June 15, 2009 11:00 AM / View Comments

groupsite-logo-white.gifAs of now, the brand of custom social network service CollectiveX is no more, and the "social collaboration communities" of Groupsite.com have taken its place. Obvious names for social web platforms may not be all the rage (Ning, anyone?), but a move to Groupsite/s will definitely be a boon for communicating what the service is all about.

The free public or private social networks, with the pro package for enterprises, will remain essentially the same, just with a new identity wrapped around it. CollectiveX networks previously hosted as subdomains should already be migrated to the new Groupsite.com

Building Sites Around Social Objects (Live from Web 2.0)

By Sarah Perez / April 3, 2009 3:52 PM / View Comments

This morning at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, Jyri Engeström, co-founder of Jaiku and now Google employee, spoke about building sites around social objects. What this means is that the social sites we visit today are not just friend networks - they're also built around objects that connect people with shared interests. These social objects could be anything from a photo on flickr to a video on YouTube or a track on Last.fm. This concept may not be new information to some of you - Jyri has been talking "social objects" for years now. What is interesting, though, is how well this information has held up over time.

Super Rewards Launches Virtual Currency Platform

By Frederic Lardinois / April 1, 2009 5:00 AM / View Comments

super_rewards_logo_mar09.jpgSuper Rewards, a monetization solution for online games and social networks, announced that developers can now implement its virtual currency platform on any social network, virtual world, or online games. Super Rewards launched in December 2007, quickly grew into one of the larger CPA networks on Facebook and MySpace, and the service has kept a relatively low profile until now. We had a chance to talk to Super Rewards' CEO Jason Bailey this week, and in our discussion, he emphasized that his company wants to provide developers with an advertising solution that is more directly targeted towards users who are playing online games or using social networks than more traditional text or banner ads.

Over the last few weeks, Facebook has been rolling out its latest redesign. Within days of the first changes, a polling application on Facebook showed that 94% of the 634,484 users who took the poll hate the redesign, and some 1.7 million users signed a petition to bring back the old design.
