ReQall, however, is not only one of the better iPhone task managers, but is also trying to make a business out of it by launching reQall Pro today. For $2.99 a month, reQall Pro users get a large number of new features, including Outlook and Google Calendar integration, geotagged events, SMS alerts, and integration with contacts that are already stored on an iPhone (iTunes link) or BlackBerry.

]]> The current version of the iPhone app does not support all of these features yet, but the new version should be available in the iTunes store soon. Users can still opt for the free version of reQall as well, though they will miss out on some of the most interesting new features.

Geotagged Tasks

The most important and interesting new feature that comes with reQall Pro is its ability to assign a location to a task. You could, for example, assign the location of your favorite store to a shopping list and then reQall will organize your to do list accordingly.

Memory Jogger

reqall_iphone.pngOne of reQall's distinguishing features is its 'memory jogger,' which looks at a user's situation (calendar, time, location), and then tries to alert the user to the most relevant items on the to-do list.

Pro users will also be able to send notes to reQall by email.

Free Transcriptions for All

Users who don't upgrade to the Pro version will still get free voice transcriptions (Jott, which offers a similar function, now charges for this feature), as well as an updated interface for contact management and the ability to add recurring events to reQall.

Verdict

Like so many other iPhone apps, reQall will surely benefit from the 3.0 firmware update once it is released in the summer. Without notifications, the app is only half as useful as it could be.

For now, however, reQall is still a very good task manager (though it might not suit everybody's taste), and its voice transcriptions and the ability to send and receive messages from a multitude of different locations (including IM and this Firefox plugin) set it apart from a lot of similar apps.

Whether this will be enough to steal users away from more established services like Remember the Milk remains to be seen, but if you aren't locked into a particular service yet, reQall Pro (you automatically get a free 30 day trial when you sign up for reQall) and its mobile apps are worth a closer look.

Tasck and KonoLive: Two Approaches to To-Do Lists kono_tasck_logo_feb09.pngWe heard about a new to-do list service today: Tasck. Tasck is a web-based application that stands out because of the pure simplicity of the service. Another to-do list service, KonoLive, just released a major update to its service and now features integration with Google Docs. KonoLive is an Adobe Air-based application that focuses on sharing to-do lists with groups. There are, of course, already plenty of to-do list managers available on the net, but both Tasck and KonoLive put their own spin on this established genre.

]]> KonoLive

konolive_feb09.pngKonoLive's focus is on sharing to-do lists with a small group of friends or colleagues. Adding tasks and sharing your lists with other users is very easy and KonoLive offers everything from basic functions like establishing due dates to a live chat feature to discuss a certain item. KonoLive also integrates nicely with Google Docs and Box.net. Your lists are cached on your own machine, but also stored on KonoLive's servers. Sadly, though, you can't access your lists directly from KonoLive's web site.

One thing we don't like about KonoLive is that it automatically creates a new Box.net account for you. While we are big fans of Box.net, KonoLive does not inform you about this until you suddenly get a welcome message from Box.net. Also, the KonoLive window can not be resized, and the application seems a bit sluggish at times and does take up an inordinate amount of memory.

Tasck

tasck_feb09.pngIn many ways, Tasck is the complete opposite of KonoLive. It has a minimalist AJAX user interface that allows you to perform a total of three actions: add tasks, delete tasks, and mark them as done. To mark a task as important, you simply capitalize the first letter.

Besides that, there really isn't much else to do - which might be a good thing, because the service lets you focus on your to-do list without getting in your way. However, it would be nice if you could re-order your tasks or edit them afterwards.

GMail, Struggling With Email, Wants to Be Your Task Manager Too Gmail has been limping along for days, with scores of people reporting down time, super slow responsiveness and other troubles. With no communication from Google about the problem - what are users to think? Perhaps that we should put more of our lives in the hands of the Gmail team!

This afternoon the GMail team announced the addition of a new feature in the Gmail Labs - a Task Manager, or to do list. It's quite an elegant little feature, when it and the rest of GMail work. Below we've got a two minute video tour that shows how the feature works, in case Gmail is down for you and you can't see it for yourself!

To turn on the task manager for yourself, click on the settings link in your Gmail, then go to labs, enable Task Manager and then scroll to the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Do you foresee yourself using this?
