Sideline: Yahoo Releases Desktop Client for Real-Time Twitter Search

yahoo_sideline_logo_mar09.pngYahoo released today a new application that brings Twitter's real-time search engine to the desktop. The Adobe AIR application allows users to create persistent real-time Twitter searches that can be grouped together in Sideline's tabbed interface. The application is meant to be a showcase for using Yahoo's UI Library on top of Adobe AIR, but it is also a good real-time search client for Twitter in its own right, with a number of interesting advanced search features.

Gartner released a report today that highlights the different ways that companies are adopting Twitter for business use. Although Twitter was originally intended for communication among individuals, a number of organizations have begun to actively participate on the platform. However, not all companies are using Twitter in the same way. Some are tweeting, some are just listening, and some really savvy companies are doing both.
